Windows Vista WPA
Setup Instructions
To connect to EECS-WPA, first make sure your wireless card is inserted.
If your wireless adapter is internal, ensure that it’s turned on.
There may be a hardware switch along the side of the notebook, a button
near the keyboard, or a function key that will need to be enabled with
Fn+F2 or a similar keystroke. Then click on the networking
icon in the taskbar and select ‘Connect or disconnect...’
Click on the EECS-WPA entry and select ‘Connect’. Enter your
username and password from the wireless access tool. You may have to
connect a second time, but eventually you can approve the certificate
in order to connect. Make sure the certificate refers to
‘wireless.cs.umn.edu’ and is signed by Thawte.
If you have problems connecting, run Windows Update to see if there are
updated drivers for your network card (you’ll need to be online).
Another option is to see if there are drivers available from the manufacturer
of your network adapter or notebook. But don’t install any drivers
that aren’t specifically designed for Windows Vista. The best option
is a driver straight from Microsoft.
If you are unable to configure WPA on your machine, send an e-mail to
and specify that you’re using Vista.
