Wireless Access
On Thursday, September 3rd, 2009, the EECS-WPA wireless network
will no longer support TKIP encryption due to security problems.
If your wireless device is configured to use TKIP for it's encryption,
please change it from TKIP to AES as soon as possible.
If you are not sure if your laptop is using the TKIP encapsulation,
do the following:
- Turn on your wireless device and make sure it is
on the EECS-WPA wireless network.
- Send email to operator asking if your device is using TKIP.
* The operator will need either the mac address or your EECS-WPA username.
To change your configuration from TKIP to AES, do the following:
-
On your wireless device, delete the existing EECS-WPA profile
- Reboot
-
Create a new EECS-WPA profile following the instructions
in the configuration guides below
Remember, this is only for EECS-WPA, not EECS-wlan or any of
the U of M wireless networks.
The EE/CS Building wireless network has access points that
allow users with
an IT Labs account
to access the Internet and the EECS network.
This service requires a machine with a wireless card and the
ability to use DHCP to obtain an address. We recommend 802.11g
cards with Atheros or Intel chipsets. 802.11a cards will also
work on our network, but dual-band cards are recommended as
802.11a has a much shorter range.
Be advised that the traffic provided to the network card registered
to an IT Labs
username is the user’s responsibility. Violations of the
IT Labs AUP or the
U of M AUP
are the responsibility of the user who registered the card.
Please read over
University policies
before accessing the network.
In order to access the wireless network you will need to
register to receive a username and password for the wireless
network. This username and password can be used to access the
EECS-WPA SSID. Use the guides below to configure your laptop
to access the network.
If you are unable to configure WPA on your machine, please contact the
Systems Operator.
