50 The older task chairs in the ITlabs have a very durable fabric, and thus are not showing their age at first glance.  But they are getting old, and the back of the seat is very small and cannot be adjusted high enough for proper back support. This proposal is to continue the process of upgrading the chairs in EE/CS 4-250, ME308 and Civil 230 to the same chair we now use in EE/CS 3-170, 2-170, 2-172, and Lind 24.  As this is approximately 220 chairs to be replaced, it is best to do it over several years/proposals. $198.00 $9,900.00
3 We are going to upgrade the wireless network in the EE/CS Building to support 802.11a/b/g protocols.  Currently only 802.11b is supported.  This will also allow use of the new Wireless Protected Access (WPA and WPA2) encryption/authentication standard.  The current wireless network is very insecure.  We recommend getting 3 Cisco 1000 Series Access points to replace the 3 old Cisco 350 series Access points $400.00 $1,200.00
2 Upgrade 2 existing Cisco 1200 Series wireless access point to support 802.11g and WPA as part of the upgrade described in item #2 $120.00 $240.00
7 The current scanners in the labs are over 6 years old and are slow with low resolution by today's standards.  We recommend upgrading these to new state-of-the-art scanners. $150.00 $1,050.00
1 Currently the IT Labs servers are connected to a UPS owned by the CSE Department.  Recently some of the UPSs in the EE/CS machine room have failed and need to be replaced.  We recommend that IT Labs purchase a UPS for their server in the EE/CS machine room $2,000.00 $2,000.00
