1)          Status reports from CSci and ADCS

None, except to note labs were busy.

2)                  Second part of Tech Committee Proposal for Lab Improvements for 2001-02

MacDonald presented the proposal of the ITICC Technical Committee for replacing the Indigos in ME 302. The proposed replacement machine is the Sun Blade, which provides extremely fast CPUs, large memory and high-end graphics capabilities.  The proposal also includes fast network connections and software to allow the computers to be used as a compute cluster.  The cost of the proposal is $190,542, bringing the total cost of improvements for FY 02 so far to about $535,000.

Details of the proposal can be found at http://www.itlabs.umn.edu/iticc/ME302-cluster.pdf).

Hudleston said he would bring the proposal to ITICC for an e-mail vote. There is concern about timing in order to be able to take advantage of a special Sun offer – with a deadline of May 18.

3)            Discussion of Proposals for Management of the IT Public Labs, 2001-02

Larson and MacDonald presented the management proposals for FY 02.  In both cases, the proposals represent a continuation of current management practices and staffing levels (with a slight reduction in staff FTE in the ADCS budget).

Details of the management  proposals can be found on the ITICC website at: www.itlabs.umn.edu/iticc/

3)                  Lower Division Proposals

Hudleston said that, given the approval of the ITICC committee, he was asking the subcommittee chaired by Prof. Baxter to prepare a joint proposal from the three presented by astronomy/geology, chemistry, and physics. Also, he was adding the replacement of computers in the classroom/lab used by Math in Lind 24 to the proposal, since these would reach their 4-year life span during the 3-year funding cycle.

ITICC will be asked to vote on the joint proposal.
