IT Technology Fee Policy

Institute of Technology (IT) -- Computer fees are charged to students in the Institute of Technology and some students in other colleges. The fees will be assessed to the following groups of students.

Fee Term Credits Student Type
$200 Fall and Spring 6 or more
  • IT undergraduate student.
  • Any UNITE student who is taking a combination of UNITE and non-UNITE courses.
  • IT non-degree seeking student.
  • CLA undergraduate student majoring in an undergraduate program listed below.
  • IT graduate student enrolled in one or more courses and in a degree program listed below.
$100 Fall and Spring 6 or more
  • UNITE students taking only UNITE courses.
$100 Fall and Spring 3 - 5
  • IT undergraduate student.
  • Any UNITE student who is taking a combination of UNITE and non-UNITE courses.
  • IT non-degree seeking student.
  • CLA undergraduate student majoring in an undergraduate program listed below.
  • IT graduate student enrolled in one or more courses and in a degree program listed below.
$50.00 Fall and Spring 3 - 5
  • UNITE students taking only UNITE courses.
$100 Summer 3 or more
  • IT undergraduate student.
  • UNITE student.
  • IT non-degree seeking student.
  • CLA undergraduate student majoring in an undergraduate program listed below.
  • IT graduate student enrolled in one or more courses and in a degree program listed below.
$50.00 Summer 1 - 2
  • IT undergraduate student.
  • UNITE student.
  • IT non-degree seeking student.
  • CLA undergraduate student majoring in an undergraduate program listed below.
  • IT graduate student enrolled in one or more courses and in a degree program listed below.

Undergraduate CLA majors subject to IT Labs Fees: astronomy, chemistry, computer science, geology, mathematics, and physics.

Graduate degree programs subject to IT Labs Fees: aerospace engineering, analytical chemistry, astronomy, astrophysics, biomedical engineering, chemical engineering, chemical physics, chemistry, civil engineering, computer science, computer engineering, control science and dynamical systems, electrical engineering, fluid mechanics, geoengineering, geological engineering, geology, geophysics, geotechnology, history of science and technology, hydrogeology, industrial and systems engineering, industrial engineering, inorganic chemistry, manufacturing systems, materials science and engineering, mathematics, mechanical engineering, mechanics, metallurgical engineering, metallurgy/materials science, mineral engineering, mineralogy/petrology, mineral resources engineering, organic chemistry, physical chemistry, physics, and scientific computation.

Those graduate students who have completed 24 semester credits in graduate school at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus, exclusive of thesis credits, will only be charged the fee if they choose to open an account.

Other students who wish to open an IT Labs Account: will be billed a $200 fee for each term they open the account unless they are responsible for paying another college technology fee. The fee will be assessed to their STARS account.
