Welcome to IT Labs
IT Labs consists of eleven computer labs. We have computers with
Windows XP, Ubuntu Linux, and the Sun Solaris operating system.

Support for the IT Labs is provided by the
IT Labs Systems Staff.
The Operator on duty can be contacted via e-mail at

by phone at (612) 625-0876, in person at room
1-213 in the Electrical Engineering and
Computer Science building, or by using the
red phones located in the labs.
IT Labs Resources
Your IT Labs account comes with many
resources
for individuals, classes, and the college. This includes free
printing, access to computer labs and servers, lab software,
and other additional free software. To make the most of your
account feel free to use all the
resources available to you.
Accounts
When you sign up for IT Labs, you get one Windows account and one
Unix/Linux account (each with its own password). For more

Class Information and Websites
Some IT Labs sponsored classes use their own websites to communicate
with students and organize information. You can find a list of the
classes on the
Course Websites
page.
Remote Access
You can remotely connect to our machines either from home or from
another IT Labs machine. We currently do not allow remote access
to Windows due to licensing issues, but you can remotely access
UNIX machines all you like. For more information, please visit the

Account Renewal
Accounts are closed at the end of every semester and must be
re-opened at the beginning of every semester. Use the
account creation form
to re-open your account each semester.
E-mail
Your IT Labs account comes with an e-mail account that has an
address of <your_username>@itlabs.umn.edu. Links to e-mail
setup help can be found on the
E-mail help page.
